Beginners Electric Guitar Buying Guide
Hello buddy! Today I gonna write about Beginners Electric Guitar Buying Guide. If you are dreaming about playing loud rocking music and want to become next big guitar hero, then electric guiter is your first ticket to that dream! 🎸
But hold on, buying electric guiter is not just like buying samosa from tea stall. Lot of things you need to think before buying. Otherwise you end up with guiter that sound like broken radio. 😂
So let’s start from the basics without eating your brain too much.
Why You Want Electric Guiter?
First thing ask yourself, why you even want electric guiter? Are you planning to rock on stage? or just chilling in bedroom playing some sad love songs? 😢
Electric guiters are very different from acoustic guiters. They need amp, cables and sometimes lot of patience too. But they give very crazy sounds like rock, pop, metal, jazz and even blues.
If you just want simple strumming, then maybe acoustic guiter is better for you. But if you want more sound effects, distortion, solos, then electric is your best friend.
Understand the Different Types of Guiters
Now, in world of guiters there are many types like:
Acoustic Guiter – Simple, good for beginners and normal play.
Electric Guiter – Need amplifier and electricity but can play rock, metal, jazz and more crazy sounds.
Electro-Acoustic Guiter – Acoustic with electronic pickup, can connect with amplifier.
Bass Guiter – Only for serious music players mostly.
Fix Your Budget (Seriously)
Before entering guiter shop, fix your budget otherwise you will be hypnotized by shiny things and regret later. In 2025, there are guiters from $70 to $7000. But for beginner peoples, I suggest between $150 to $400 is best area.
Remember you also need to buy:
Amplifier
Cable
Maybe strap
Picks
Tuner
So save little extra money for those too. Otherwise you buy guiter but no sound comes out because no amp. Then you will sit and cry in corner. 😂

Know the Main Types of Electric Guiters
Electric guiters come in many shapes like weird fruits. But mainly these:
Stratocaster Style (like Fender) – Good for clean tone, rock, blues.
Les Paul Style (like Gibson) – Heavy, fat sound, great for rock and metal.
Superstrat Style (Ibanez, Jackson) – Best for shredding, crazy solos, metal.
Telecaster Style – Very twangy sound, good for country, pop.
As beginner, Stratocaster type is very nice. Easy to handle, not too heavy like big fat watermelon.
When I first saw Les Paul, I thought it’s very small, but when I lifted it, I almost fell down. It’s heavy bro! 😅

Pickup Things
Not talking about pickup lines for girls here. 😂 Pickups are small things on guiter that catch string sound and send it to amp.
Single Coil Pickups – Bright, crispy sound. (like Fender Strat)
Humbucker Pickups – Fat, thick, powerful sound. (like Gibson Les Paul)
If you like clean sound, blues, pop, then single coils are nice.
If you like rock, metal, heavy music, then humbuckers are better.
Some guiters also have combination like HSS (Humbucker-Single-Single). Looks confusing but it just mean more sound options.

Feel the Neck
When you hold the neck of guiter, it should feel comfy like old pillow. If neck is too big or too small, your hand will start paining after 10 minutes.
Thin Neck – Good for small hands, fast playing.
Thick Neck – Good for big hands, stronger grip.
Go to shop and hold few guiters, even if you don’t know how to play yet. Just feel it. Trust me, feeling is very important in guiters and also in life. 😂
Think About the Weight
Electric guiters are heavier than acoustic. Some are like light cat, some are like carrying a bag full of bricks.
If you planning to play standing long time, choose lighter guiter. Otherwise after 1 hour, you will play while sitting on floor like old baba.
Check the Build Quality
Some cheap guiters looks nice but made from plastic feeling wood. 😂 Check if:
Body is strong.
Frets are smooth, not sharp like knife.
No weird buzzing sound when you press strings.
Tuning pegs are strong, not loose.
Brands like Squier, Yamaha, Ibanez, Epiphone make good guiters for beginners.
Starter Packs: Good or Bad?
Many brands selling “Starter Packs” for beginners. Inside you get guiter, amp, cable, picks, strap etc.
These are good if you are 100% beginner and don’t want headache of buying everything separate. Also mostly cheaper than buying separately.
But sometimes quality is little low, so if you serious about learning and playing, maybe better to buy guiter and amp separately.
When I start, I buyed starter pack. First 2 months it was good, after that I feel like upgrading everything. 😂
Don’t Ignore Amplifier
Remember electric guiter without amp is like fish without water. No matter how good your guiter is, if amp is bad, sound will be garbage.
As beginner:
Small practice amp is enough (10W to 20W).
Brands like Fender, Boss, Blackstar, Line 6 are good.
Some amps come with built-in effects (like reverb, distortion).
Spend little good money on amp too, not only guiter.
Buy From Right Place
If possible, buy from physical shop where you can try before buying. Otherwise, trusted online sites like Sweetwater, Thomann, Guitar Center etc.
Also check return policy. Because sometimes guiter looks great in photo but in real it looks like toy from fair. 😂
Final Tips
Don’t run after only looks. Good sound and feel is more important.
Ask shop guy to setup your guiter properly (intonation, action etc).
Watch some YouTube videos about beginner guiters before buying.
Remember, no guiter will make you rockstar in 1 day. Practice makes magic.
Even best guiter in world will sound bad if you don’t practice. And even cheap guiter can make magic if you practice hard and love your music. ❤️
